Providing a Positive Influence
The WIN mentoring program has been a significant part of the WIN organization for over thirty years, starting with the Willmar chapter of Business and Professional Women (BPW).
This program matches up interested WIN members with a middle school female student, 5th – 8th grade, who could benefit from a positive female role model outside of their own family. The mentor is initially matched up with the student in 5th grade and stays with them until they graduate from the program in 9th grade.
Each month all of the girls in the program and all of the female mentors get together for a group activity. The activities include things like swimming, bowling, archery, volunteering, playing games, baking. The girls are also introduced to volunteer activities in the community. Individual meetings between the mentors and mentees take place once or twice a month.
WIN Mentoring Program Goals
The goal of the program is to provide a positive influence helping young girls to:
Becoming a Mentor
To Girls in the Willmar, MN Area
Members of WIN who are interested in being a mentor are required to successfully complete a background check and are then matched with a mentee, who is selected by a child guide. Child guides are staff members at Willmar Public Schools. The role of the guide is to connect students and their families with programs and support to help ensure their success as students and members of the community.
